Ugh...

So I have hit a bit of daylight in my finals schedule. I don't exactly know what to do. I have things to do, but I certainly don't want to do them. So I sit here and type. I really have nothing to say, I just don't want to do anything school-related.
I guess I did see Team America today. That was pretty hot. Consequently, I have decided that I love Trey Parker and Matt Stone. South Park started out pretty rough (mostly dick and fart jokes), but it has really come into its own this season. They simply stopped putting the emphasis on stupid things like "Look at all the jokes about poop! There are so many! Isn't that hilarious?" Don't get me wrong, I love the occasional crude joke, I mean who doesn't? I mean, seriously, after more than 10 years I can still watch America's Funniest Home Videos because you are almost guaranteed a video of somebody getting hit in the nuts with a blunt object. But that humor just gets really old really fast. So imagine my delight when I saw that the South Park crew were moving towards a universally hilarious subject... offending people. There has not been an episode this season during which I did not cringe at some horribly offensive comment they made. But there has also not been an episode this season during which I didn't almost die laughing at some point.
And so it goes with Team America. They just say terrible things and make fun of everyone. But the really hilarious part comes not through the actual jokes (although they are fucking hilarious), it comes when you take a step back and realize that the people they are making fun of are real people. Kim Jong Il is a real person. He really does have nuclear weapons that he could use against us. But make a puppet of him say stupid things in a funny accent and it becomes comic gold.
E3 is tomorrow, and I suppose that is something to take a marginal amount of interest in. I'm not really on the next-gen bandwagon just yet, so its pretty tough for me to get excited. Also, the Xbox360 and the PS3 look like space age toasters.... not exactly fever-pitched excitement material.
Star Wars drops tomorrow at midnight. I have been so caught up in finals that I haven't really had time to get excited for that, but I suppose that it is the movie I have been waiting my whole life for. The story is good, it looks like it won't suck, there is a possibility that Jar Jar will not be in it (or will be killed at some point), and most importantly THE BAD GUYS WIN! Haha! This is going to be so great. It will be sad, however, as the end of Star Wars will be the end of a very long and distinguished section of movie history. I could talk about it all night, but I will save it for its own post.
Well, I better get crackin on some studying. Take care everyone and expect some bitchin posts at the beginning of next week.

Another Nine Days...

Oh lord the pain. Oh lord I am dying. Such are the words torn from the Russian poetry of hunger, and such are my feelings about "dead week." Dead week... Whoever came up with that brilliant jewel of a name should be beaten to death with their own leg. I have been, and shall continue to be, wretchedly busy until about Saturday. But that is a bit misleading, because as soon as I stop being busy with pre-finals bullshit, I start being busy with finals. *SIGH......*
Anyways, just thought I would check in and say hi, so those of you out there worried about my lack of posts (do you really exist?) can sleep easy at night. And as a preemptive word of apology, don't expect much of anything for at least another nine days. Sorry. Hopefully when summer hits I will start posting on a more regular basis. Until then here's few quick thoughts:
•Area 51 is the best idea with the worst implementation I have ever seen.
•I might be having a freshman year music revival. Techno and R&B seem to have very peculiar effects upon me of late. I shall have to investigate this further...
•Looks like summer psych research might be on the horizon. I am looking into it as we speak. More on that as it develops.
•Fight Night 2 kicks ass. I have not had this much fun with a boxing game since Punch Out.
•Already got my tickets for Star Wars. The modern, online entertainment machine has taken all the fun out of waiting in line for tickets. Now the only people who camp out are people nostalgic for the past, people who simply want the thrill of wasting their time in a frivolous pantomime of a once noble endeavor. I will wait in line for a few hours to ensure getting good seats, but honestly, how long will that line get?
Take care intrepid readers, and if you are currently in the maw of madness, (aka finals) may God have mercy upon your soul.

Cake and Collateral

BFF

So this weekend was pretty strange. Not a lot happened, but what did happen was very memorable. First off, my roommate Zach and I decided on Friday night that we didn't want to go to the bars but we did want to do something equally worthless. So we cracked open a 30 pack of Natty and turned on School of Rock. Shortly thereafter, some of our friends called and wanted to come over after they left the Ranch, so we decided that we should prepare a surprise for them. We turned on our drinking caps and chugged like champs.
By the time our wayward brethren arrived at our house, we had constructed a beer-castle that constituted a Herculean feat of Natty-fication. In but two short hours an entire 30 pack had sacrificed itself to our wanton rampage of destruction and we had erected a mighty tower vaguely resembling the Tower of Babel. Needless to say, the next morning a punishment was levied upon us not unlike the punitive actions taken against the ancient Babylonians. We could neither think clearly, nor speak in any sort of decisive meter. The moral of the story? I could tell you, but that would cheapen the message. Go my children and find out for yourselves...
Saturday night we simply couldn't drink and so we decided that a more "low-impact" course of action would be needed. So we rented Collateral and went to Hy-Vee at 11:30 at night to buy cake. Having spent the better part of 30 minutes deciding upon the cake best suited to our tastes and current situation, we were quite pleased with the results. We then went home, ate cake, and watched Collateral. Quite an evening, to be sure.
Collateral is a very good movie, by the way. Should you get the chance to see it, I would highly recommend it. Tom Cruise is spot on and plays one of the more convincing hitmen I have seen since that humble cleaner. Jamie Foxx also shines and richly deserved his Best Supporting Actor nomination this past year for the role. And if you have the chance to eat cake whilst watching it, I would recommend Strawberry... it worked quite well for us.

Ready, Steady, Go
